Gramma & The Nutcracker

I can't remember EXACTLY how old I was, but obviously old enough to know how to write legibly :) My grandmother and my mother took me to see the PNB Nutcracker performance every year from when I was 4 years old until I was 24 and my grandmother passed away. It was a huge deal every year...almost better than Christmas! I would get a pretty dress to wear and we would get all dolled up and head "into the city" (back before Bellevue was a booming metropolis in its own right) and we would have a fancy lunch and go shopping and basically have a grand old time. But not this particular year. This year, they let my BROTHER come along with us. Which totally ruined everything, since he was 3 years younger and stole my thunder often. (I was a dramatic child.) So when my mother asked me where I would like to have lunch (usually the answer was "Frederick & Nelson's", they made Frango milkshakes)...I thought of the most outlandish, crazy, far out fancy place I could think of. "I want to eat at the Space Needle". Mom said yes, and I was SHOCKED. That was the FANCIEST PLACE I COULD THINK OF!! And she said YES! So off we went that day, to the Space Needle. I felt like a movie star. Fast forward to being seated at our table. The waiter tells us that the restaurant rotates. ROTATES?? This is even better than I thought. And to top it all off, as I look out to confirm that we are, in fact, moving, I see a NOTE on the windowsill! It says "We are here for our 15th wedding anniversary!" So I demanded a pen from the waiter (who found me and my amazement at everything highly entertaining) and wrote "CONGRATULATIONS!" in my scrawliest fanciest writing I could. Then I decided I needed to write a note. My mother, who was paying attention to my brother and his antics, did not notice me sneak a piece of paper from her purse and slip a note onto the sill. a few minutes later, there was a commotion somewhere behind me. A lady walked by our table and immediately started giggling. Then a few more minutes, and another lady did the same thing. 3 more people. My mom became somewhat suspicious. I am not wholly sure she ever figured out what was going on...nor did we stay long enough for my note to come back around. (My brother was not going to sit still if he couldn't have ice cream.) What did the note say? "PLEASE HELP ME MY BROTHER IS RUINING EVERYTHING AND MY MOM NEVER LISTENS" I haven't been back to the Space Needle restaurant since....
